1. President changed governors of two states

  • On October 18, President Draupadi Murmu appointed former Jharkhand CM and BJP national vice president Raghuvar Das as the Governor of Odisha.
  • Indra Sena Reddy Nallu has been made the Governor of Tripura.
  • Jharkhand’s first non-tribal CM Raghuvar Das started his political career with the Janata Party in 1977. Raghuvar Das has been the Chief Minister of Jharkhand from 2014 to 2019.
  • Das is the first CM to complete his tenure after the formation of Jharkhand.
  • Raghuvar Das became MLA for the first time from Jamshedpur East seat in the year 1995.
  • Indra Sena Reddy Nallu is a BJP leader and national president from Telangana.

2. India ranked 64th in Global Remote Work Index

  • Global Remote Work Index (GRWI) 2023 list released.
  • India has been placed at 64th position out of 108 countries in this list.
  • Compared to the list of 2022, India is at 64th position this year with a decline of 15 positions.
  • India was ranked 49th in the list of ‘Global Remote Work Index 2022’.

3. Waheeda Rehman honored with ‘Dada Saheb Phalke’ Award

  • Waheeda started her film career with the 1956 film CID.
  • Waheeda Rehman has acted in Hindi cinema as well as Tamil, Telugu and Bengali films.
  • ‘Dada Saheb Phalke’ Award is the highest honor given in Indian cinema.
  • This award is given in the memory of Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, who is called the ‘Father’ of Indian cinema.
  • He made the first Indian cinema film ‘Raja Harishchandra’, which was released in April 1913.
  • An amount of Rs 10 lakh is also given along with the ‘Dada Saheb Phalke’ Award.
  • In the year 1969, the first ‘Dada Saheb Phalke’ Award was given to actress Devika Rani.

4. ‘Kati Bihu’ festival celebrated in Assam

  • According to the Assamese calendar, this festival is celebrated in the month of Kati.
  • This festival is also known as Kangoli Bihu.
  • Kati Bihu 2023 is celebrated on 18 October and marks the growth of the rice crop and the beginning of the new harvest season.

5. India will send the largest contingent to the ‘Para Asian Games 2022’

Sports Ministry has announced to send the largest 446-member para contingent to the ‘Para Asian Games 2022’.
The ‘4th Para Asian Games’ will be held in Hangzhou city of China from October 22 to October 28.
Parul Parmar and Amit Saroha will be the flag bearers at the ‘Para Asian Games 2022’.
There are 303 players in the Indian contingent for ‘Para Asian Games 2022’.

6. One cylinder will be available for free on Diwali 2023 in UP

  • UP CM Yogi Adityanath has laid the foundation stone of 256 development projects worth Rs 632 crore in Transport Nagar.
  • Also, this year on Diwali, it has been announced to give one cylinder free under ‘Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana’.
  • CM Yogi Adityanath inaugurated 104 schemes worth Rs 208 crore and laid the foundation stone of 152 projects worth Rs 424 crore.
  • ‘Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana’ beneficiaries will get Rs 300 cheaper cylinder along with a free cylinder on Diwali 2023.

7. Nitin Gadkari hoisted the country’s highest tricolor flag at Attari border during his visit to Amritsar on Thursday.

  • Country’s tallest flag on Attari border: 18 feet higher than the Pakistani flag, the system installed on the top of the flag will help in surveillance of soldiers.
  • Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari hoisted the country’s highest tricolor flag at Attari border during his visit to Amritsar on Thursday.
  • He said that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari told that this tricolor installed on the border is equipped with a special surveillance technology.

8. Madhya Pradesh won the title of the first ‘Hockey India Sub Junior Men and Women West Zone Championship 2023’

  • Madhya Pradesh has won the title of the first Hockey India Junior and Sub Junior Women’s Academy Championship 2023 – (Zone A).
  • In Hockey India’s sub-junior category, Madhya Pradesh girls defeated Ghummanhera Riser Academy 4-0 while in the junior category, Madhya Pradesh defeated Khalsa Hockey Academy (Amritsar) 9-0 to win the gold medal.

9. Arunachal Pradesh approves formation of ‘Special Tiger Protection Force’ for tiger reserves

  • The state government of Arunachal Pradesh has approved the formation of Special Tiger Protection Force for the protection of tigers in the state.
  • This force will be deployed in Namdapha, Pakke and Kamlang Tiger Reserve.
  • A total of 336 posts will also be created under this.

10. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate India’s first regional railway on October 20.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate India’s first regional rail, RapidX, from Sahibabad, Uttar Pradesh on October 20.
  • In the first phase, it will be operated for 17 kilometers which includes a total of five stations Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai and Duhai Depot.
  • These trains will run at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour at an interval of 15 minutes and the RapidX train has six coaches.
