1. 20 October – World Statistics Day

  • World Statistics Day is celebrated every year on 20 October.
  • This day is dedicated to creating awareness about the vital role of advanced, reliable and good quality data in the development of global nations.
  • The United Nations General Assembly established World Statistics Day on 20 October 2015.
  • The idea of celebrating World Statistics Day was proposed at the 41st session of the United Nations Statistical Commission in February 2010. The Commission had recommended celebrating 20 October 2010 as the first World Statistics Day.

2. Amul’s ‘Be More Milk’ campaign goes global at Time Square

  • Amul said its ‘Be More Milk’ campaign has made a big splash at New York’s Time Square, the world-famous square with giant digital screens.
  • The campaign displayed the ‘Drink More Milk’ message in colorful and animated billboards, which caught the attention of passersby and illuminated the iconic intersection in a unique way.
  • Known as a melting pot of cultures around the world, this setting played a special role in launching the campaign internationally.

3. PM Modi launches 511 Pramod Mahajan Rural Skill Development Centers

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 511 Pramod Mahajan Rural Skill Development Centers in Maharashtra through video conferencing.
  • These centers being established in 34 rural districts of the state will conduct skill development training programs in various fields to provide employment opportunities to the rural youth.
  • Each center will train about 100 youth in at least two vocational courses.
  • The training is being provided by industry partners and agencies empaneled under the National Skill Development Council. The establishment of these centers will help the region achieve significant progress towards development.

4. Dharmendra Pradhan launches India Skills 2023 competition

  • Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has launched the India Skills 2023 competition in New Delhi.
  • Skills competition is important to showcase the unique and diverse talents of the youth of the country. The future of India’s education lies in skill development rather than traditional rote learning.
  • The new education policy will bring skill upgrading and rescaling to meet market needs and boost employability.

5. Global Pension Index 2023: India ranked 45th; Netherlands is on top

  • The 15th annual Mercer CFA Institute Global Pension Index (MCGPI) has been published, and shows that the Netherlands’ retirement income system has once again taken first place.
  • Iceland and Denmark have secured second and third positions respectively in the ranking.
  • The Netherlands had the highest overall index value (85.0), followed by Iceland (83.5) and Denmark (81.3). Argentina had the lowest index value (42.3).

6. PM Narendra Modi flags off Regional Rapid Rail Namo Bharat

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Regional Rapid Rail Namo Bharat and also visited it.
  • RapidX train is a train of six coaches, in which one coach is reserved for women.
  • This train has 72 seat standard coach and 62 seat premium coach.
  • 30 trains will be operated on the Delhi-Meerut corridor.
  • Out of these, 10 trains will run between Sahibabad-Duhai.

7. Operation Chakra-II: Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI

  • The Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI, as part of its Operation Chakra-II, conducted searches at 76 locations across multiple states in connection with five separate cases.
  • Its objective is to curb organized cyber-enabled financial crimes in India.
  • It was jointly conducted by CBI with national and international agencies and private sector players.

8. REC Ltd honored with Golden Peacock Award in Disaster Management

  • REC Limited, a central public sector company, has been awarded the Golden Peacock Award by the Institute of Directors for its exceptional performance in disaster management.
  • The Golden Peacock Award was instituted by the Institute of Directors in 1991.
  • REC Limited is a non-banking financial institution, it was established in 1969.

9. UP government to organize three-day ‘Shri Anna Mahotsav’

  • The Uttar Pradesh government will organize Shri Anna Mahotsav in the state capital from October 27 to 29 to promote the use of millets.
  • On this occasion, farmers who have done good work for millet production will be honored.
  • Fifty progressive farmers from each division will participate in the programme, which aims to create awareness among the people and farmers regarding cultivation and consumption of millet in the state.
  • About 40 stalls of food made from millet will also be set up during the three-day Shri Anna Mahotsav.

10. Punjab made the highest ever T20 score in the history of Indian cricket.

  • Punjab created history by scoring 275/6, the highest ever T20 score by any Indian cricket team against Andhra Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023.
  • Abhishek scored 112 runs in just 51 balls, helping Punjab score a huge score of 275 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs.
