2. 26 October 2023 – 76th Accession Day

  • Jammu and Kashmir is celebrating its 76th merger day on 26 October 2023.
  • This day is very significant as it marks the moment when the people of this former princely state firmly chose their destiny by merging with the Union of India.
  • Despite being an integral part of India’s prestigious democratic journey, Jammu and
  • Kashmir has faced significant challenges due to Pakistan’s persistent external interference aimed at disrupting its internal structure.
  • At the time of India’s independence in 1947, the Indian subcontinent was divided into two newly formed nations, India and Pakistan.
  • Along with these two dominions, there were 580 princely states that had previously accepted the paramountcy of the British Crown through subsidiary alliances.

  • On this occasion, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhary informed the Defense Minister about the operational preparedness of the Indian Air Force.

4. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the 7th edition of India Mobile Congress in New Delhi

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 7th edition of India Mobile Congress in New Delhi.
  • In this event, prominent people from the telecom industry will showcase cutting-edge technologies.
  • During the event, PM Modi presented awards to 100 ‘5G Use Case Labs’ set up in educational institutions across India as part of the ‘100 5G Labs initiative’.

5. PM Modi presides over the meeting of the 43rd edition of Pragati

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the meeting of the 43rd edition of PRAGATI involving the central and state governments.
  • Pragati is an ICT-based multi-modal platform for pro-active governance and timely implementation.
  • He reviewed eight major projects spread over seven states, the cumulative cost of which is about Rs 31 thousand crore.
  • Of these, four projects were related to water supply and irrigation, two projects were for expansion of national highways and connectivity, and two projects were related to rail and metro rail connectivity. These are Bihar, Jharkhand, Haryana, Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

6. India hosts meeting of UN Forum on Forests in Dehradun

  • A two-day Country Led Initiative (CLI) program has been organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in Uttarakhand at the Forest Research Institute, Dehradun.
  • About 55 delegates from 30 countries and 41 delegates from 20 organizations participated in this Country Lead Initiative both in person and online to discuss forest fire and forest certification.
  • The meeting is expected to emerge with implementable framework and recommendations for forest fire management and forest certification, which will promote sustainable forest management.
  • These recommendations will be considered for discussion at the 19th session of the UNFF to be held at the United Nations Headquarters, New York in May 2024.

7. Rubina Francis won bronze medal in women’s 10 meter air pistol at the Asian Para Games.

  • Shooter Rubina Francis won a bronze medal in the P2 – Women’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 event at the Asian Para Games held in Hangzhou, China.
  • Rubina Francis is currently ranked fifth in the Women’s World Shooting Para Sports Rankings by the International Shooting Sport Federation.
  • He also participated in the 2018 Asian Para Games.

8. Deepti Jewanji won gold medal in women’s 400m-T20 event in Asian Para Games.

  • India’s Deepti Jeevanji has won the gold medal in the women’s 400m-T20 event at the Asian Para Games 2023.
  • Deepti clocked 56.69 seconds and was more than two seconds ahead of her nearest rival Orwan Kaising of Thailand, who won the silver medal with a timing of 59 seconds.
  • Japan’s Nina Nono finished third in Hangzhou with a timing of 59.73 seconds.

9. Former Prime Minister of China ‘Li Keqiang’ passed away

  • Li Keqiang, former Prime Minister of India’s neighboring country China, died at the age of 68.
  • According to media reports, Li Keqiang was vacationing in Shanghai for some time where he died of a heart attack.
  • Keqiang served as the Prime Minister of China from 2013 to 2023.
  • He was the leader of the ruling Communist Party of China.

10. Sultan Ibrahim elected Sultan Iskandar as the next King of Malaysia

  • The royal families of Malaysia have elected Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar as the next king of the country.
  • He will take over from outgoing King Al-Sultan Abdullah on January 31 next year.
  • Malaysia has a unique tradition in which the heads of its nine royal families become kings on a rotating basis for a five-year term.
