  • UNESCO in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and National Center for Sustainable Coastal Management concluded the 10th South and Central Asian Biosphere Reserve Network meeting in Chennai.

  • Senior IPS officer Praveen Madhukar Pawar has been appointed joint director in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for five years.
  • Pawar is a 2003 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Karnataka cadre.
  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his appointment to the post of Joint Director of CBI for five years.

5. Philippines announces withdrawal from China’s Belt and Road Initiative

  • Philippines has announced its exit from China’s Belt and Road Initiative – BRI.
  • According to Asia Times report, the Philippines government has ended all the BRI projects and has decided to hand over the work related to the project to Japan and Western countries.

6. Karnataka launches “Dr. Puneeth Rajkumar Hriday Jyoti Yojana”

  • The scheme seeks to install emergency equipment at public places to help people suffering from heart attacks within critical response time.
  • Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao announced the scheme two days after the second death anniversary of popular Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar, who died of a heart attack at the age of 46.

7. Mumbai ranks fourth in global housing price growth

  • Mumbai recorded the fourth highest year-on-year growth in prime residential prices among global cities for the quarter ending September 2023, according to Knight Frank’s Prime Global Cities Index for the quarter ending September 2023.
  • A 6.5 per cent rise in prime housing prices has taken the city up 18 places from 22nd in September 2022.
  • New Delhi and Bengaluru also recorded upward growth in their index rankings. NCR moved up from 36th position a year ago to 10th in September 2023 with an annual growth of 4.1 per cent.
  • Bengaluru’s rank increased from 27 in 2022 to 17 in 2023, an increase of 2.2 percent.

8. RBI appointed Manoranjan Mishra as new executive director

  • In his role as Executive Director, Mishra will oversee the Enforcement Department, Risk Monitoring Department and External Investments and Operations Department.

  • The new office will open in the Emirate of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
